Babel
I watched "Babel" on Sunday. The movie has won Golden Globe Best Motion Picture (Drama) and has got 7 Oscar nominations.
The story is not bad but not as interesting as I have expected. It is nominated Best Motion Picture of the Academy Award right?
The Morocco story: An American couple (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) was on vacation in the Moroccan desert. The wife was accidentally shot by two Moroccan kids. They were waiting for resure while the Moroccan police looked for the suspect.
The Mexico story: Their kids left at home were brought to Mexico by the Mexican nanny (Adriana Barraza) because she had to attend her son's wedding party and they were illegally across the U.S border.
The Japan story: A deaf-mute high school Japanese girl (Rinko Kikuchi) whose father (Koji Yakusho) happened to be the owner of the gun. He gave the gun to the father of the Moroccan kids. This part focused on the Japanese girl who urged for love affection.
It was the gun shot which connected these stories. The major parts were what happened to Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett and the Mexican nanny. The Japan story is just an additional part of the movie.
What is the message from this movie? All I can say is that the American couple was very unfortunate!
